♥ curiouser and curiouser...

 so i've been a little quiet this week blog wise, i have a lovely new creative café post for you tomorrow but in the meantime i thought i'd share what i've been working on recently

i was looking at some of my old 'Where's Charlie?' picture book characters and i thought i'd have a go at re-inventing and altering some of the characters

so i ended up drawing two little princess style girls, and kind of like the last princess image i worked on, i imagined that these two were sisters, one very girly and pretty, the other a little bit more gothic

but as i coloured them i realised that they actually reminded me of something else... and so this was the next result!  with the lovely Ballaglass Glen acting as a makeshift Wonderland!

i'm not sure why, but as i coloured them it made me think of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, so i tweaked them a bit and added in a re-vamped 'cupcake princess' as the Red Queen!

i'm not gonna lie, they were a lot of fun to work on! i haven't really done any fan art for a while so it was nice to incorporate colours and details from existing characters for a change!

♥ Penguins Galore

I was woken up this morning at 7:50am by a text message. normally this would have ended with me hurling the phone off my bedside table towards the window or the wall but on this occasion i didn't mind too much. must have been a mellow morning mood or something.

anyway, i've stayed in all day today since it was the last day that Sienna, Emma and Mandy were all staying here. Sienna finally got her nails painted sparkly pink (by yours truly) this morning as well, since i was bad and spent most of last night on my computer editing illustrations! sorry Sienna x

anyway since i have no new news (no new news, try saying that quickly 5 times) to share i thought i'd post my latest illustration instead

it's the very special one i was on about the other day, 'a very special illustration requested by my super duper friend Jeni who is going off to Uni soon'

this is the finished result, it's called 'Jeni in Penguinland'

shall i explain the craziness of this picture?! ok dokes here goes...

well, her fave colour is Blue and she luuurves Penguins so somehow i came up with this

i thought blue dress for sure + penguinland...

something to do with Alice in Wonderland maybe...

so it was basically a chance to have another go at an Alice in Wonderland style girl, whilst also attempting to make her look like Jeni AND bringing the penguins into it as well.

she's seen it already and seems to like it so i'm going to print out a nice neat copy of it for her once i'm back at college since the whole point of the illustration request was so that she'd have something to put on the wall of her new room at uni.

and that's it really.

i reached 700 followers today on Twitter which was cause for a mini celebration (i put on my 6-inch heels and had a little dance around my room to Peggy Lee songs)

to be honest i spent most of the day sat on my own listening to Manx Radio (i finally sorted it so i can listen to it on my macbook), editing photos and writing stuff on my laptop.

i got some exciting news today though via email so stay tuned for something ultra suuuuper happening soon.

i know it may seem like i wasted mine but since i'm off away in a few days i figured a day of doing absolutely nothing was exactly what i needed before the hustle and bustle of airports and rent-a-cars takes over on Wednesday!

2 weeks down... 5 to go!

so i've already finished my first 2 weeks of FMP and thus far it really hasn't bee to bad!
i've got a lot of work done, with a load more still to do!
i know i said i wouldn't be uploading much new stuff but seeing as it's a bank holiday weekend and i'm in an unusually good mood ( which probably has something to do with me absolutely LOVING the latest episode of Doctor Who) i thought i'd spend the next 2 days uploading some of the work i've done for FMP so far to my deviantART and Facebooj pages

oh and btw, i'm not doing a full children's picture book any more! i realised it was pretty much an impossible task considering the amount of time i've got not to mention the bucket load of other work i've got to do to go with the project!

so instead i am going to do illustrate a few scenes from my story, yes... i am still writing a story (in fact it's already written) and hopefully i'll get these scenes printed out on A1 for my exhibition

Week of Blogging - Day 2

have i gone mad?

I'm afraid so, you're entirely bonkers! But I'll tell you a secret... all the best people are!

i honestly haven't a clue why i decide to blog so late in the day!

anyway today i spent the day drawing a few random things as well as a couple of Alice in Wonderland Fan Arts. i started off attempting to draw the Tim Burton versions...

but they really, really didn't look right! god knows i tried, but to no avail it seems! then i had a go at drawing Alice from the SyFy miniseries but she didn't really look like your typical Alice in Wonderland! so instead i ended up drawing MY own version of Alice. i guess she's kind of a mix between Disney Alice's old and new, well sort of...

i'll let you make up your own mind about her! my friend mike has been the testing platform for this particular illustration (i kept sending him screencaps of my progress as i coloured her) but i'm glad to report that he seemed to like her, so i hope you will too!

my Alice

mega stressful times!

gosh i haven't posted since the 4th of March! that might be because i've been ridiculously busy trying to get stuff sorted for my LAST ever assessment at college (well... last one this year!)

i literally slept for about 3 hours all weekend!

anyway the assessment was yesterday and it went rather well i think! my tutor said (quote) 'it was a very GOOD assessment' and i got all Merits and Distinctions so... yeah, i guess you could say it went well!

so today i skipped college and basically slept for the entire day! haha it was ok, they're assessing all week at college so i didn't miss any classes or anything!

my current super duper obsession is anything 'Alice in Wonderland' related! i went to see the new movie last Wednesday (one word... AMAZING) i'm currently re-reading 'the looking glass wars' (cannot wait for the moive!) and i spent all this morning watching the utterly fabulous and awesome 'Alice' 2 part mini series from the American TV channel 'SyFy' (the geniuses behind the Wizard of Oz inspired mini series 'Tin Man') it was sooooooo good i may have to go and watch it again right now!

hahaha i can highly reccomend it for any AiW fan, it's a very cool modern take on the old story, with an ass-kicking (literally) Alice and a chivalrous (not to mention bloody adorabbubble and gorrrrgeous!) Hatter (played by British actor Andrew Lee Potts).

so anyway... i may just go and watch that right now! lots o' luv from an incredibly rainy Isle of Man! :-D xXx

ps - next week i am going to do a week of blogging. the plan is for me to post something new every single day! maybe a new illustration or just a weird insight to my oh so entertaining (hah!) world! stay tuned loyal followers :-) x
