The Peculiar Princess ★

so i've been a very lazy blogger lately, i'm sorry! it's the usual excuse as well, college work/commissions etc

so it's just a quick post today i'm afraid! 

you see, i have a few new Princess designs to show you all. those of you that follow me via Twitter or Facebook might have glimpsed a WIP screencap i posted one evening, well this has something to do with that...

you see i drew out a design the other day, then i added in some stuff from a previous design... then i faffed around with colours and such, so there are actually 3 versions of this girl at the moment!

ok so she can't make up her mind as to how she should look, but as you'll see, she likes to read!

right so, there's... a sort of colour blend type one...

a strange, bright, pop-art type one...

and a calmer sort of Rococo type one...

i really can't decide where to place her colour-wise! it's been fun going through colour cycles though, there are about 6 more different variations littering my desktop but these 3 are my faves so far. 

not sure what you\ll all think! which one do YOU like???

and that's it i think, like i said, lazy blogger! although today i did manage to get over half of my Xmas present shopping done in town! so not so lazy in that respect...

i'm going to head off and work on some more commission stuff now! i have CD covers, book covers, flyers, e-cards and postcard designs to work on, busy busy busy!

Poodles and Pugs ★

so once again i've been uber busy this week working on college stuff (for once...) + various commission bits and bobs! i've also been gathering and preparing prints for a little exhibition, but i'll tell you more about that in a few days...

in the mean time i thought i'd share some new little pieces i've been working on for college!

i have a picture of a pug dog on my desk board at college (amongst various other pics and doodles) and the other day, during a tutorial, my tutor Billee suggested i have a go at drawing some poodles since she used to have some as pets. 

i never really draw animals unless it's for a story or a commission so i figured i should at least have a go!  this was the result...

i'm still not sure how to finish them off but it was fun to have a go at something a bit different

i've also been doodling stuff to do with 'the Cupcake Princess' lately as well and drawing these poodles gave me another little idea...

all Princesses need pets right?! here's the Candy Floss Princess and her faithful pink poodle 'Sugarplum' 

and of course, the Cupcake Princess herself + her trusty little pug 'Muffin' since after all, i do have a lil' pic of a pug on my college desk board!

yeah ok, so i'm still not great at drawing dogs but hey, these were fun to do + colour.

 as you can see i have a thing for candy-bag stripes at the moment as well... 

i guess i should have a go at a little pet for the 'Popcorn Prince' but i couldn't really think of one... 

any ideas?!

in other news... er, i can't really think of any actually! i've been so busy sorting stuff for college and commissions that i haven't really been up to much else!

hopefully this week i'll get out and about a bit more + i have a super duper Creative Café post to run soon so be sure to look out for that!

Parcels and Princesses ★

so today I had a lovely day at college! It was my turn to provide the music for the class so we spent the afternoon listening to all sorts of stuff from the 40's and 50's which was a-ok with me! + we oh so briefly got granted wi-fi access today, my macbook was the tester but the wi-fi only lasted about 10 minutes before vanishing again! fingers crossed they get it sorted... soon!

Anyway today I have some new artwork to share with you all!

I've been busy the past few days working on these little designs for college featuring princesses.

Now i'm not entirely sure what they're for or where they're going but I did them anyway!

There are 4 finished (are they?! I'm not sure) Princess Tiles altogether... so far

supposedly they're each based on an old Fairytale Princess,

there's... Sleeping Beauty

Snow White

Rapunzel

and Cinderella... although why this one is 'Cinderella' i'm not entirely sure! She's either Cinderella or the Princess and the Pea, or maybe Thumbelina... who knows! If anyone can think of a more suitable title for her... let me know!

oh and in case you were wondering, their unusual colour schemes come from a set of felt circles my mum got me, i intend to sew into them a bit so i guess the plan is for the embroidery pieces to link with these tiles!

in other news...

a big parcel from asos arrived for me today!

last year a client paid me with an asos voucher that i've been slowly but surely spending since then! i bought a dress with the voucher way back in February (obviously that's not me in the pic... but trust me, it looks much better on the model)

and this time i bought 2 more pretty dresses...

a cute little skin care gift-set

and a pair of adorable Cath Kidston earrings!

i just luuuuuurve getting parcels though! no matter what they're for!

not much else to report on today, so far people seem to be liking the badges and mirrors! i posted off 2 badges to a customer this morning + i even sold a mirror at college!

Candy Characters and Commissions ★

so today i've been at home all day, curled up editing design files for a brand new commission

believe it or not but yesterday i genuinely DID have a blog post all ready to go... but it was a long day yesterday spent chained to my desk at college editing stuff, writing my SOI, talking to tutors, chatting to fellow HNDers, researching picture books, sketching storyboards and even holding a little business meeting over the phone for aforementioned new commission!

this meant that when i eventually got home i sort of accidentally fell asleep and by the time i woke up it was too late to post!!!

Anyway, in the last blog post I promised you some new Candy Characters and you know i'd hate to disappoint so...

they're not really 'new' per se, just new outfit designs I guess! + there are some more tweaked girls playing the parts of two NEW Candy Princesses

i'm not entirely sure where i'm going with these, so i guess they're a sort of collective work in progress for the time being!

so far this term (well, all 5 days of it!!!) i've not really got a specific plan in mind for what i'd like to do so who knows, I might end up pursuing some picture book illustration again! but whether that means finishing 'Where's Charlie?” or coming up with a full story for the Cupcake Princess... i'm not really sure!

we'll all just have to wait and see...

In other news... there isn't really any other news! I HAVE finished a new Pinup girl but i'm not going to share her with you... just yet!

back to college tomorrow where hopefully i'll get to spend the morning in the Ceramics studio whipping up some groovy little bits and bobs using clay!

♥ curiouser and curiouser...

 so i've been a little quiet this week blog wise, i have a lovely new creative café post for you tomorrow but in the meantime i thought i'd share what i've been working on recently

i was looking at some of my old 'Where's Charlie?' picture book characters and i thought i'd have a go at re-inventing and altering some of the characters

so i ended up drawing two little princess style girls, and kind of like the last princess image i worked on, i imagined that these two were sisters, one very girly and pretty, the other a little bit more gothic

but as i coloured them i realised that they actually reminded me of something else... and so this was the next result!  with the lovely Ballaglass Glen acting as a makeshift Wonderland!

i'm not sure why, but as i coloured them it made me think of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, so i tweaked them a bit and added in a re-vamped 'cupcake princess' as the Red Queen!

i'm not gonna lie, they were a lot of fun to work on! i haven't really done any fan art for a while so it was nice to incorporate colours and details from existing characters for a change!
