arty stuff ★

so yesterday i had to go into college, despite it being my day off...

however it was for a good reason since local artist/illustrator Juan Moore came in to do a workshop with the HND class

here's a bit of info about Juan...

"Juan Moore was born and raised on the Isle of Man and studied at Falmouth College of Arts, in 2006 he graduated with a first class BA honours degree in illustration. Since graduating Juan has produced work for many international clients including Scholastic books and the Guardian newspaper. Juan has also exhibited his work not only on the Isle of Man but also in England, Wales, London, France, Hong Kong and New York"

i first saw his work during my first year of College when he had an exhibition of 100 paintings on at a local gallery in Douglas.

the ceramics tutor from college took us all down to the gallery to see a ceramic exhibition but i was more interested in the lovely little paintings that lined the walls...

his paintings and illustrations are always really unusual with the most gorgeous mix of colours + wonderful themes and characters and the most exquisite little details

his work has this wonderful surreal almost twisted fairytale quality to it that i just love

last year + this year Juan has been working on 'Welcome to the Neighbourhood' a super duper series of exhibitions for the Isle of Man in association with the Isle of Man arts council.
one year, five exhibitions, five different venues... one artist

total genius!

"Welcome to the neighbourhood is a series of temporary exhibitions over the space of a year in places that an art exhibition wouldn’t normally be seen. The Idea behind this project is to show art (and a lot of it) outside the context of an art gallery"

here are some of the pieces from 'One Night Stand' Juan's most recent exhibition from the 'Welcome to the Neighbourhood' series

totally amazing artwork right!!!

yep well... i did tell you it was awesome!

anyway, if you'd like to see some more of Juan's work + find out more info about his exhibitions all over the world + where to buy pieces of his artwork, check out his blog here - Juan Illustration

+ to keep up to date with the 'Welcome to the Neighbourhood' series of Exhibitions, be sure to 'Like' the facebook fan page here - Welcome to the Neighbourhood

anyway the workshop at college was really great! it was so, so, so, sooooooo useful and interesting and totally awesome! we all learnt loads and it was great to get tips + advice from someone that has actually been through the college system just like us yet has gone on to make quite a name for himself in the world of fine art and illustration!

thanks for the tips Juan ★
