Creative Café #1 ★

ok so i know i was supposed to post yesterday but it actually wasn't my fault that i couldn't because i was waiting on a reply from the artist i was going going to talk about

the good news is that she replied so i'll post about her today instead!

i've decided to start a new regular feature, since 'super sundays' have been on hiatus since. . . well i can't even remember when, i thought it was about time we had a new one!

i'm calling it 'Creative Café' since the idea is that you make a cup of coffee or tea settle down and get to see some lovely work by an artist/illustrator/photographer/graphic designer that you otherwise might not have heard of

i'm fortunate enough to know and network with so many talented creative types so i thought this would be a nice way of featuring some of them

i don't know if it will be a weekly thing, a fortnightly thing or an 'every-couple-of-days' thing yet but you can be sure there'll be several 'Creative Café' posts popping up over the next few weeks

so without any further ado i shall get on with the post. . .

today i want to share a super duper artist with her, you all know how much i love all things Burlesque and Pinup so when you see her work you'll understand the appeal straightaway

today it's all about the fabulous Charlotte Thomson

Charlotte is a fine artist, illustrator and event organiser working out of Nottinghamshire, UK.
she creates the most stunning sketches, paintings and digital designs of Burlesque and Pinup girls + her work is so pretty and fun, her girls are so amazing and each one has their own unique character and style

i only discovered her work recently when an old IOM College student sent me an email with a couple of artists to look up (yes you will find out about the others soon enough) and i just adored her work straight away
it isn't hard to see why either. . .

her work just has this quirky, fun vibe. the Burlesque and Pinup girls are a little bit naughty, dangerously curvy and undeniably sexy
her designs are so cute and girly, and you just know that they'd ALL look amazing as tattoos! i have a terrible phobia of needles but if i were ever brave enough to get a tattoo i'd love it to be one of Charlotte's Burlesque or Pinup gals

Charlotte uses lots of different mediums to create her artwork. these include: pen and ink, graphite pencil, acrylic, watercolour and diluted ink as well as digital techniques
she designs for websites and publications as well as exclusive commissions for Burlesque dancers, models, Brides and just about anyone else that fancies a funky bespoke portrait or character

some of her work also has this beautifully delicate quality to it as well, i just really really love the way she draws people. . .

some of her Bridal portraits are so divine though! what a lovely way to commemorate your day, with a one off Bridal portrait of you looking a million dollars!
ok you know what, i always ramble on in these posts so i'm just going to let you look through Charlotte's beautiful artwork by yourself. . . enjoy!

pretty darn gorgeous right!!!

Shopping in the Rain... again ♥

So i've had a fun day today, instead of sitting at home working on commissions or twiddling my thumbs like I ALWAYS do on my days off... I spent the day in Douglas town instead, and a successful day it was!

I spent the entire morning doing some much needed Christmas present shopping (my nieces are sorted... but that's it) and ok yes I MAY have bought myself a new belt and a new diary for next year as well but in my defence the belt was in the clearance section (£5... bargain!) and technically the diary was free since I got it on a '3 for 2' offer so... yeah, shhh!

And in the afternoon I had to go to a meeting. Shall I call it a business meeting? I don't know, anyway it was a preliminary meeting about a project i'm hopefully going to be working on over the next few weeks and... that's all I can tell you

but stay tuned I guess!

Anyway, back to the shopping times... i thought i'd show you all what my new little diary looks like...

isn't it gorgeous? i've wanted it for aaaaaages so i'm glad i finally treated myself to it today!

actually, I should say it's... 'gorjuss' not 'gorgeous' since it's by the fabulous Scottish artist Suzanne Woolcott and these charming little characters are known as her 'gorjuss girls'
here are all of the adorable 'gorjuss' diaries available for 2011, you can get yours from most 'Boots' shops here in the UK or they're available to buy online here - Santoro

i've been a fan of Suzanne's work since i was at Primary school, this is the first 'gorjuss' picture i ever saw, and i've pretty much adored her work ever since...

i guess she's always been an illustrator and artist that i've aspired to be like. i mean i really love her work but apart from creating beautiful paintings, drawings and digital pieces she also has wonderful merchandising to showcase her artwork, like these fabulous little notebooks for example...
her work is so sweet and charming, i don't think i've ever seen a piece she's done and not liked it! i love the girliness of her work, and the timeless nature of it.

the 'gorjuss' girls' are all modern and yet there's something about them that seems almost old fashoned, the colours Suzanne uses often give them a somewhat vintage feel and look to them but her work is always gorgeous, not matter what.

the sad thing is, poor Suzanne has been suffering greatly recently with health problems and my prayers and thoughts go out to her and her family at what must be a tough time.

it's heartbreaking to know that her illness might rob her of the ability to create such beautiful artwork but i hope and pray that she recovers. you can keep up to date with all of Suzanne's news here on her super duper blog - Little Gorjuss Things

if you'd like to sprinkle a little bit of goruss-ness into your life then i suggest you give Suzanne's 'Santoro' shop a visit for some fabulous little bags, prints, badges as well as lots of lovely stationary (stationary YAY) and other bits and bobs - Santoro Shop

and for exclusive prints, special boxed canvas prints and even some original paintings... check out her truly scrumptious Etsy shop here   - Gorjuss

and last but not least, if you just fancy a skeet at some of her incredible work, then check out her official website here - Suzanne Woolcott

ok, i'm off to watch some episodes of Fringe (i'm on a Fringe kick again for some reason) and to munch on my box of chocolate covered pretzels...  YESSSSSSSS (don't pretend you aren't jealous Mike... i SO know that you are!)

how excited was i to find them earlier while out shopping?

on a scale of 1 - 10 i'd say about... 29

that's all folks...

Cute and Girly ♥

Ok I know... i've been lazy! No new blog posts since Thursday! Oh noooes!

I don't even have a good excuse... or any excuse for that matter! Just pure old fashioned lazyness i'm afraid!

Sorry!

So to make it up to you... here's a sh*tload of pictures!!!

last night I was bored so I visited my tumblr account. Now i'm a real tumblr slacker, I always forget to post stuff so I thought i'd have a bit of a mooch about and find some bits to post.
However... I ended up on one of the most awesome and fabby dabby tumblr pages i've ever seen!

I get distracted quite easily so when I spotted a post in my news feed by the fabulous 'acrylicana' (of whom I am a massive fan) I followed the link to the tumblr account of 'Fuckyeahcuteandgirlyshit!' and to kick off the girlyness here are some gem encrusted pastel creamy macaroons... beats ‘Ladurée’ macaroons any day!

so I pretty much ended up spending a good hour and a half just trailing through the site drooling at the sheer awesomeness of the pictures in it... i mean look at these necklaces! cameos with diamantés!!! hell yes!

Like the title of the page suggests, 'Fuckyeahcuteandgirlyshit!' is full of all things girly, supercute and generally pretty amazing and down right fabulous... i mean look at this awesome old 'Polly Pocket' playset!!!
i got far too excited over this picture mainly because when i was little i had this, i had this... I HAD THIS!!!!!

Now one of the things I like most about the 'Fuckyeahcuteandgirlyshit!' page, is the fact that it's also full of examples of gorgeous girly illustration, manga and animation. I love blogs and tumblr pages that teach me about fabulous artists that i'd never have heard about otherwise!

For example... whilst browsing the pages I spotted this beautiful piece...

seriously i recommend clicking it for a full view (since i can't full size the image in the post or else my blog will cut half of it away...) it's just gorgeous! so much detail and so god-damn girly!

anyway, the tumblr page didn't say who it was by but contained a link to someone's flickr page! so after a bit of sifting around on the flickr link i managed to find the artist.
it's by a Japanese artist called Junko Mizuno

it turns out i have actually already heard of him, i've just never seen the above uber girly piece before. i know him for creating exquisitely detailed paintings that look like a mixture of modern graphic design and classic Japanese woodcuts.

i mainly know of his work from doing my picture book research for college last year. this is one of my favourite pieces by him that i still have a crappy little printed version of pinned up in my room.

check out his site anyway (Junko Mizuno) his work really is totally super duper.

right my lovelies, on that happy and not to mention extremely colourful note i'm off now!
it's lunch time + i need to watch the Singapore Grand Prix (yes... i AM a big F1 fan, go figure?!) so i shall bid you all adieu

enjoy the rest of your Sunday, whatever you're up to and wherever you are in the world

that's all folks...
